LAS VEGAS JAM BAND SOCIETY
Members’ Meeting Minutes
February 4, 2015 (Wednesday)

Meeting Begins: 7:39PM @ The Hard Rock Café, Paradise.

President’s Report (Greg): “Well on our way to the 15th Anniversary…”

*Have been in discussion about a 15th Anniversary LVJBS T-shirt, while utilizing roommate Larry’s T-shirt printing business. Other Members will connections will help compare prices/quality once the design is created.

*We have, from the UK, The New Mastersounds with openers, Moksha, on Monday, February 9th @ The Hard Rock Live (strip). Flyer-cards have been distributed. Tell your friends, ‘share’/’RSVP via Social Media to help spread the word, (Pre-sale tix $16, $20 at door.) Doors at 7pm, Mokash 7:30, 7:45 until 9, 9:15pm & New Mastersounds, 10pm, until 12:30am.

*Thanks to Ian for taking care of our ‘January Friends & Family event. The Sweet Tomatoes dinner with 15% back to the LVJBS was a success. The February event will be brought up in our ‘Open Floor’ and is a ‘2015 Member Meet & Greet’ type event, organized by Jenny M.

Vice President’s Report (Kathy):
*An Officers’ Meeting was held last month, at Greg’s home. JT has worked very hard on our new ‘membership/data’ site, Wild Apricot. Those who have ‘explored it’ have seemed to do so with ease.

*We decided to OPT out of the ‘Pirate Fest’ event as a group. We will donate our sound system/tech, and help share the word. For those interested in creating a ‘cardboard regatta’, please contact the ‘fine folks’ of Pirate Fest. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Secretary’s Report (Jessica):
*Spoke with some attendees and vendors for the recent AGE & CHAMPS Conventions, which were currently (& just recently) in town. The majority of tourists say they are limited in after-convention late-night, music shows (besides the sold out, known Jack White show.) The mention of a future-LVJBS-collaboration was had between a few vendors/businesses. Maybe make this a focus for late Winter 2016? (The information of Brooklyn Bowl’s THE WAILERS shows with DJ Logic late nights and the after meeting, EMINENCE ENSEMBLE, fliers were shared.)

Treasurer’s Report (Paige):
*Have been getting everything together in regards to the books. The new system seems to have ‘easy to run’ reports. We have over $4000 of new credits with the 2015 Membership dues. So far, there are 54 paid members.

*Continue to support the LVJBS when using purchases via AMAZON.com by simply using www.amazonsmiles.com and search for the non-profit LAS VEGAS JAM BAND SOCIETY. A percentage of your total will automatically come back the LVJBS’s way……(Please share this with ANY/ALL online shoppers.) Super easy to do!

*Your “Treasurer’ is also a Legal Notary in the State of Nevada. So, with any notice and with kind requests, I am willing to assist our Members with any Notary need.

*Came across the ½ page Ad which was in RELIX Magazine for our 10th Anniversary. Discussed getting one for our 15th Anniversary. More details TBD.

Mayor’s Report (Frobi (absent) via Jessica):

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Fundraising Committee (Kathy):
*Kathy dropped off a $500 money order to the Band Director, Mr. Daines, at White MS. Mr. Daines was thankful and it was fun learning He is a friend of Brian Triola, of Moksha. The ‘Advanced Band’ was given our ‘mission statement’ with Mr. Daines’ discussion of the LVJBS promoting live, local music.

*The next school donation will be to Dr. Nunez, the Orchestra Director at Swainston MS. More info TBA.

*There will be a table at the Feb. 9th NEW MASTERSOUNDS/MOKSHA show. It was decided that a 50/50 Raffle for cash be done this time, instead of a Raffle. (Half would go to the winner and half back to LVJBS for the Fundraising Committee.) We will also inquire about some signed merchandise from the New Mastersounds that evening. Kathy and Mike F. will be getting the table together that evening.

Archive Committee (RJ/Fred via Kathy)
-- Fred has been happily enjoying these files and looking through the memories. It was suggested that any posters/items signed by bands for Raffles, etc., be done in two, so one set goes to the Archive for safekeeping and memories. (Any bands that return, we may bring back a past poster and having them sign again to add to the file.) Added the ‘Sweet Tomatoes and New Mastersounds/Moksha fliers to the archive.
Still in positive discussion of a 2016 Calendar. (Group to collaborate with Paul C. and Erik K. to find a dozen ‘commemorative’ photos to ‘sum up’ our past 15 years.)
--An LVJBS 15-year anniversary party/show with the items on display was discussed. Group enjoys this idea for a future evening of great memories.

PRODUCTION REPORT (GREG):
CONTACTS

*MOONALICE and THE ROUTINE made contact and then are possibly booked somewhere in Las Vegas for Wed., April 22nd. Unsure of details.

*Quicksilver West (Production agent) mentioned the band, TOWN MOUNTAIN (wanted to play for the LVJBS years back). They are now working with ‘FRANK SULLIVAN & THE DIRTY KITCHEN’ who are looking for a June 8-11 (M-Th.) spot. (Because the early Summer events are unknown with the Brooklyn Bowl --and usually busy in Las Vegas, we mentioned sharing their information with the Boulder Dam Brewery or the 4-Play Tavern. More info TBD.

*THE SCOTT PEMBERTON TRIO (Portland, OR) are still looking for a venue for Sat., March 14th. Group discussed maybe 4-Play Tavern, the E-String, or The HideAway on Rancho/Decatur. More info TBD.

(Discussion of what questions ‘should’ be asked when coming across future venues/bars: *Can we charge a cover charge or should it be a ‘donation’ at the door type cover?
*Will the ‘bar’ pay the band and make it a ‘free for all’ show?)

*AFROZEP (played the Hard Rock Café in 2013), want to come back in April: Fridays, the 3rd or 10th . Group had positive response. Confirm the details by March’s meeting.

*NEW MONSOON looking for Sat., March 21st. (Group thinks this is ‘too close’ to the Railroad Earth show, the next evening.) Going to ask for other dates.

*ART OF ILL-FUSION interested in Sat., March 21st. Too close to Railroad Earth’s 3/22 show. Will see about future dates.
OPEN FLOOR:
*The NEW membership-system, WILD APRICOT has been helping with the new additions to the 2015 Membership with ease. This will soon be the ‘best’ way to keep current with LVJBS events and members. This will soon be the way to ‘reach out’ to find Volunteers, advertise for shows, etc. Video-tutorials will soon be posted (by the June Members’ Meeting) and the Yahoo! Group will SOON be phased-out, where the www.lvjbs.org website, the Wild Apricot Site, and our FaceBook page will be the ‘main’ ways of social media.

*Greg’s been in contact with Adam of the ‘Adelphi Amphitheater’ in near Nelson’s Landing, in Searchlight. A day-venture to view the facilities will happen soon.

*RELIX Magazine is looking for responsible ‘table’ volunteers for the SCI weekend, at the Brooklyn Bowl. They will ‘train’ the workers (two ea., four-hour, shift—8 people total needed) and the volunteer will have entry to the show, but seeing it from ‘somewhere’ in the building. There is no need for the table at the ‘late night’ Lotus show, so that entry would be complimentary. Any interest? Contact Greg, LVSMOJOE@yahoo.com

*The LVJBS January Friends & Family Event (hosted by Jenny M.) will be shared with the bands: THE SIGNALS & FLUX, at Jalisco’s Cantina, on 6450 S. Durango Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89113. This will be a ‘new member’ meet & greet, of sorts. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21st @ 6pm. There is an all-ages restaurant area for those who want to start the evening with children/dinner and then, come back to hear music after, at the 21+ bar next door (2 sets each).

*The next LVJBS Friends & Family Event for MARCH will be one upcoming evening in March. This will most likely be a Dinner-Gathering for all-ages, at one of our Members’ (Sheila M.’s) place of employment, APPLEBEES on N. Rainbow & Lake Mead, who will give back a percentage of our diners’ checks. The date, confirmed location, and information will be shared, by Jessica, ASAP.

*The Next LVJBS meeting will be at 4-Play Tavern, on East Sunset Rd. on TUESDAY, MARCH 3rd.

Meeting Adjourned: 8:59PM
