Las Vegas
Jam Band Society—Members’ Meeting Minutes—June
1, 2010
Meeting begins: 7:45PM
Greg presents some JAMBUCKS for nostalgia, which
He says may be stronger than the Greek euro.
President’s Report (Greg);
--Been busy with many bands and/or venues phoning
regarding some potential shows.
--The GM of the HRC wants more LVJBS shows there
(since moe. was a success). We have secured a possible
late-night venue @ the HR Café in case of
the rumored Phish—October. Shows.
--We also have the Binion’s Roof-top/poolside
venue (which requires 40 dinners @ $40/plate to
make the venue rental free). It is understood that
there is NO use of the pool for the gigs, due to
electricity & our LVJBS Safety-motto of “NO
flights for life!” This venue, Keith says,
“feels like being in a P-Diddy video with
the 360 degree views, etc.”
Vice President’s Report (Roland):
--There will be LVJBS Anniversary T-Shirts available
the night of June 4th’s show.
--Roland has contacted QuACTUS a few times, with
no replies as of yet.
Secretary’s Report (Jessica):
--Volunteers needed for Friday, June 4th show. Please
contact besoljess@aol. com to help out. THANKS!
JMayor’s Report (Stella):
Color: Oil Slick Black L
--Looking forward to Friday’s show. See ya
on the dance floor! JTreasurer’s Report (Dan):
--We have $ in the bank—even after splitting
the new sound system costs with the E-String.
--We had 16 paid @ the Hi8us show (which was a members-free
show) & PAY YOUR DUES! JCommittee Reports: (not
present)
Production Report (Greg):
--There are 2 upcoming events confirmed:
JUNE 4th—Bounders, The Moaning Blacksnakes,
& Red Grooves @ The Hard Rock Café, on
the strip. $10. Doors & Red Grooves @ 7PM. Bounders
play until 2am.
JUNE 24th—Oakhurst @ The SandDollar 8PM, ($5
to $10)
--Greg tallied the emails sent regarding which bands
would like to be seen in LV. The band with the MOST
votes was Cornmeal. Rumor has it that Phish’s
‘people’ has booked Cornmeal for the
HRC (Oct. 15-17). Unsure how this will work, since
we have “dibs” on the Phish after shows
@ HRC. More info TBA.
--Garaj Mahal was the next band with many votes.
They are looking at Aug. 7-12. We will offer a 70/30
split since we have lost $ on past events with them.
--Thurs., Sept. 9th—BONERAMA (looking at a
$1,500 guarantee). This could be a possible HRC
show, since they help with advertising costs.
--Thurs. Dec. 2nd—Dark Star Orchestra would
like to play. We lost $500 the last time they played.
We will offer them their ‘guarantee’
minus $500, then work the split door offer with
the HRC.
--Brother’s Gow (from Flagstaff, AZ) are interested
in playing Las Vegas--Either as a headliner or as
an opener. See link of their music from email sent
6-1-2010 by lvsmojoe@yahoo. com & let us know
what you think!
--Carnival of Dogs (A super-group with 80’s
hard rock & cover tunes are interested in playing
LV). Consists of: Guns n’ Roses drummer, Nikki
Guns from LA Guns, and Frankie Perez.
--From the emailed votes, sent to Greg, these booking
agents have been contacted & told about the
LVJBS for future gigs: · ALO ·
The Motet · Larry Keel · Lotus
· Reel Big Fish · Mofro ·
North Mississippi Allstars · David Nelson
Band · New Riders of the Purple Sage
· That 1 Guy · Tea Leaf Green
· Gov’t Mule
More info TBA
OPEN FLOOR:
--The WEBSITE (www.lvjbs.org) is now being updated,
with better links, the new logo, etc. There is a
Café Press link, to order any LVJBS schwag
(mugs, clothing, aprons, etc.) TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!!
(The Officers will soon have their photo & small
bio near their contact info, so outsiders can recognize
‘that one guy/gal’ from LVJBS when travelling,
etc.)
--Finkel checked out Chris DeHerrera’s band:
Mirror Imij (played Schwagstock & it was a fun
time!) CHECK IT!!!
--Question was brought up regarding the “immediate
feedback” email list & who receives those
emails. When “immediate feedback” type
emails are sent, it goes to the Officers & paid
members, so the WHOLE Yahoo! Group isn’t bombarded
with emails.
--Keith & Julie saw OTIS TAYLOR @ the Blues
festival. It is a trance-banjo- blues-funky style,
with a fiddle player. Highly recommended.
--Ian Z. & Jessica were representing at last
week’s UBERSCHALL gig. Good ‘ol Monday-holidays!
--Watch for upcoming emails for COSMIC BOWLING &
a group night @ the 51’s game.
--Greg’s fortune cookie: “You don’t
become a failure, until you are satisfied with being
one!”
