Las Vegas Jam Band Society Meeting Minutes
MARCH 2, 2010

Meeting Began: 7:40PM

President’s Report (Greg):
“Uh, let’s get this thing on-roll here!”
-Met with Andrew (Hard Rock Café) today. We got the final numbers together for the moe. event. We had either a price guarantee or 50% of the door. After it was all said & done, the LVJBS made $4,000. The HRC will soon cut the LVJBS a donation check.
-There were 14 NEW Memberships sign-up at the EOTO show. It was a GREAT last minute push for the yearly-incentive. Thanks to the Membership Table volunteers! Good work! J
(*Side Note: Greg was able to THANK moe. (in person) for refunding some of the monies for the Sound Test, 7 years ago. They replied with “you guys are welcome….that was the place with the ‘REALLY FINE DUST.’” )
Vice President’s Report (Roland):
“I got ketchup! Woo-Woo!”
-This was one “hell of a weekend. Go Team!” Nice to see new faces here, at the meeting. We’ll stick around after the meeting and get some introductions done.
-PLEASE be sure to check out the emails when bands send music or interest. This is important, so the bands and the dates can be discussed at the monthly meetings. Usually, the bands/Booking agents contact Greg (lvsmojoe@yahoo. com), Greg gives the “readied” email letting them know of our “procedures” for getting bands to play for us. (This usually consists of sending the Yahoo! Group an email, with the band’s names and any links sent. Then, the group responds with their thoughts/opinions on the bands/music heard. The bands are announced again, during the meeting’s ‘Production Report.’ THANKS! JSecretary’s Report (Jessica):
It was a fun, long weekend of music! Thanks to the helpers who worked the door and to Stella for taking charge of the Membership table! Funny story: Met a guy from Illinois at EOTO, who later was introduced to Greg. He said, “I saw that guy at the bar, as many people approached him, I thought, ‘Geez, that Dude looks important!’” J
Treasurer’s Report (Dan):
-EOTO: We lost $15 (All members were free, so we ‘would’ have made some $).
-Garaj Mahal: We lost $875.
-PAY YOUR DUES!

Mayor’s Report (Stella): Color: “Lucky Green”
-Thanks to the Membership Table Volunteers & the T-shirt sales volunteers! KUDOS!

Archive Committee (RJ):
-The moe. show is no available on the ‘fresh jams’ link on the LVJBS website or found at:
www.Archive. org/bookmarks/ datsofunky or by the link from datsofunky@yahoo. com’s email sent 3-2-10 on the Yahoo! Group.
-The LVJBS posters are now flattened and together. If you have any goods/flyers/ misc. items for the archive-stuff, please contact RJ (at the email above).

PRODUCTION REPORT (Greg):
Upcoming Events:
*Friday, March 5th--Medusa Tango w/ Forgotten Space @ McMullan’s Pub (Tropicana & Cameron).
*Sunday, March 7th—GALACTIC (with LVJBS helping to promote) @ Wasted Space (Hard Rock Hotel).
*Wednesday, April 7th, 8PM, Box Car Bandits (bluegrass) @ The SandDollar (either $5 or $7 to pay the band).
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --
*NEON REVERB FESTIVAL asked the LVJBS at our last meeting if we would want to collaborate again for the LVJBS Jam Band Showcase Stage. (Thursday, March 11th). Greg had sent 2 emails to inquire if any local jam bands were interested. No response, except for AYALA (who offered their sound-equipment for this event) and possibly ‘TOMORROW’S BAD SEEDS’ & ‘GUN STAR HEROES’. After much discussion, realization of lack of interest, and it being a weeknight—tough to get volunteers-- the group decided “NO.”
*MOONALICE (feat. John Molo, Barry Celeste, Jack Cassidy, Pete Seares, etc.) (w/ local guys: MELANCHOLICS) interested in Sat. April 10th.
--We lost $800+ last time they played. Because of this, their management said they would give us a slight-break. Estimating 100 people at $10 to break even. Venue: The E-String.
Group Voted: YES
*JOUNCE (interested in May 1st) Their booking agent is a member of LVJBS. Group voted: NO (due to not knowing anything about the band/hearing their music). Group asking for an emailed link to music or CD’s brought to the next meeting.
*HI8US (were seen by 6 members, randomly, one night, who said they were GREAT!) They want to play, Friday, May 7th with AL-HOWARD for either a split or a small door-deal. ‘AYALA’ may consider opening for this event.
*MACPODZ are interested in a 2-night run for fans to travel into town, weekend of May 15th. Some members received CD’s at the February meeting, but still aren’t sure in what they have to offer for a 2-night gig. They are asking for $700. We would need 100 people at $10 to break even (after hospitality, etc.). Group Voted: YES, for one night, Saturday, May 15th.
*BUS STOP STALLIONS (from Austin, TX). They are interested in a June date. Some members’ comments: Similar to Wise Monkey Orchestra, Funky Fun, & We dig ‘em! Group voted: YES, depending on the date & the price.
OPEN FLOOR
Welcome to:
-Troy S. (joined at EOTO’s show) & his wife, Heidi & friend Mo.
-Rich C. (computer website & social networking pro)
-Joel C. (advertisement…possible free publicity for the RJ/City Life papers.
-Mike F. (music fan)
-Bill (moved to LV from Chicago, hasn’t been to many shows, since he’s moved, so he decided to come to the meeting!)

--Joel C. mentioned using the Review Journal’s site & calendar of events, to get free advertising. Go to: www.lvrj.com, calendar—‘Z’Vents’ for free entertainment calendar.
(Greg to exchange info with Rich & Joel to join this task with our web-master, Tim.)

-Pete, owner of the E-String, wants to set up a radio-show. Greg could hold a Jam Band hour with members joining in. The group liked this idea. More info to come!
-The E-String’s sound system will soon be taken out. It is owned by someone else. Group discussed possibly combining efforts with The E-String and possibly purchasing a Sound System with the E-String in exchange for ‘venue use’, bands could rent it for small fee, etc. More info and discussion to come!

*Concerns of venues being “too far” for drinkers to drive. Thoughts: Carpool with a Designated Driver, Stay at nearby hotels or members’ homes, or just stay sober?

Meeting Adjourned: 9:10PM
