Las Vegas Jam Band Society September 2009 Members' Meeting Minutes
September 1, 2009
7:42PM: Meeting begins
“Alright! Let’s get this thing started!”
President’s Report: (Greg) Recent, new info has been being posted to the Members’ List and the Yahoo! Group. We will discuss them tonight!
**The NEW Hard Rock Café has asked us to assist with their first show. The special events manager is a fan of Jam band music and was looking into having The Disco Biscuits or Dark Star Orchestra as their first show. He had called Greg and asked his opinion. Dark Star Orchestra (DSO) ended up being available for Sunday, October 11th.
Greg discussed the HRC’s stage. (Only 20’ wide x12’deep). Because of DSO having a large band, the HRC will have to rent stage extenders. Greg suggested some ideas prior to the construction of the HRC being completed. Possibly making a taller, larger stage area OR purchasing the stage extenders (since they would probably have to rent them often).
**Hot Buttered Rum String Band, for Sunday, NOV. 15th. The Hard Rock Café thinks there would probably not be enough people in attendance to host the show there. The show is now confirmed at The E-String.
Vice President’s Report: (Ian)
This space left blank intentionally! J
Treasurer’s Report: (Dan) We have some money!
Made $20-Charley Orlando Band
Made $60-Montana Slim String Band
Lost $44 on ToasT (12 members were FREE—1st Quarter show)

Secretary’s Report: (Jessica)
The VOLUNTEER list needs more volunteers. Keep ‘em coming! J
Mayors’ Report: (Skip) Color: Black & Gold (for the Steelers)
Skip has been looking into venues and asking members their thoughts on purchasing a venue for the LVJBS. He’s seen banquet halls with full kitchen/bars, 600 capacity for $197,000 or so.
Thoughts: Is it worth it? Basically $1 per sq. ft. This would avoid us having to move sound in & out.
**Kathy chimed in with the IMAC concept (theater/music venue in NY w/ memberships, nightly liquor licenses needed, etc.
--President says to “look into it and report back!”

**BOOMBOX is looking for Sept. 24th, Thursday. We didn’t have a venue, yet, now we have the E-String again. They are asking for $750 or 70/30 Split. Volunteers: Stacey & Neela for the door and IN/OUT equipment: RJ, Finkel, & Robert
**Jerry Joseph & the Jack Mormons—Their date, 9/26, fell through. They cancelled the SW leg of the tour.
**CHICAGO AFROBEAT PROJECT—looking for Nov. 10 thru 14th. Groups thinks we should do Nov. 14th @ The E-String, so the equipment can move in and stay there for the Nov. 15th ‘s HBRSB show. Maybe do a 2-day price tickets/discounted. Possibly do a Harvest Theme weekend show. Group likes the idea, depending if room is available on Nov. 14th.

Greg contacted the Hard Rock for Aussie Floyd or Santana freebies. No word back yet.

THOUGHTS:

***New Year’s Eve/ LVJBS 10th Anniversary show!!! Our first meeting was Jan. 3, 2000.
With: moe. Their peeps say 2,000 people minimum. Skip contacted the All-Sport Park (Sunset/LV Blvd.). It has 13,000 sq. ft seats/bleachers/ stage.
(HRC is looking at having Mix-Master-Mike w/ table and bottle service. So, that’s probably not an option).
**Group is in favor of the NYE-moe. Show & giving them the ‘honest’ offer.
**If this doesn’t happen, we will still consider a 10th Anniversary show in Jan. 2010 with the Hard Rock Café hosting it.
