Las Vegas Jam Band Society
Members’ Meeting Minutes
September 2, 2014

Meeting Begins: 7:43PM @ Gold Spike Lounge
President’s Report (Greg):
“Well, let’s get this started?!”

-For the last ‘LVJBS Friends & Family event, we raised $90. There were 30 attendees of Members, their kids, and some friends. A brochure was grabbed for the future possible areas/prices, etc. that can be looked at for the next LVJBS outing (tables, chairs, food & beverage services, etc.) Seemed to be a good time had by all & it’ll most likely continue to be a tradition for the LVJBS.

-After doing some research, it shows that we just had the anniversary of the ‘incorporation’ of the Las Vegas Jam Band Society becoming a 501c3 Non-Profit status (2003). (We’ve been a ‘society’ since 2000 & since we are coming up on our #15, there were thoughts of making a 15 year LVJBS, updated T-shirt. The goal is to have 100 paid dues-members for 2015, so offering a T-shirt for dues may help increase our current year’s number. To help celebrate the #15, a possible ‘anniversary’ show may happen!

-Looking forward to the ROBERT WALTERS’ 20th CONGRESS for Sunday, 11/2, late night, at the Hard Rock Café (….& the Hard Rock Café, moe. Show, opposite Greensky Bluegrass on 11/1 ….& the 10/31, after show of the Kyle Gass Band (@ HRLive), opposite Brooklyn Bowl’s moe.)

-Ray H. spoke of the smile.amazon.com which donates to one’s ‘favorite’ non-profit. (i.e. purchase goods on ‘www.smile.amazon.com’ & get a percentage of total shared back to the LVJBS & also Smith’s grocery store will give 10% of your order to a local non-profit of your choice. More details TBA.

-The Last Quarter of the 2014 year is coming up…..already! In November, we will have our OFFICER NOMINATIONS for the 2015 LVJBS year & in December, we will have our OFFICER ELECTIONS. More info discussed at the upcoming meetings.

Vice President’s Report (John):
(absent: report via video/verbal report by Paige & Jenny)
Still discussing (with Terry at ‘More’s FOX5) their spotlighting of some Local Jam Band, with their Gibson-Acoustic Soundstage’. A letter is being created to give to all businesses and companies our information and group’s mission to help music in schools. Hoping to have money and/or goods (coupons, raffle items, etc.) given with the easily-supplied letter. As more info comes our way, it’ll be shared.

Treasurer’s Report (Dan):
We have liquid assets…Be sure to start saving for 2015’s Dues.

Secretary’s Report (Jessica):
Went by our ‘sponsored by: Las Vegas Jam Band Society, Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up sign on the SR*564, near Lake Mead’s Pay Station. The sign has been relocated. (The ‘SEPTEMBER LVJBS’S FRIENDS & FAMILY’ event is on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th (see Facebook evite—coming soon—and the soon to be posted Yahoo! Email for more information and the RSVP.)

Brought up possibly using LVJBS funds to purchase some grabber-tools (thinking 5-10 tools @ guessing $5/ea), to help with the future ‘Adopt-a-Highway’ clean-ups, since we plan on keeping up with our duties & it makes the picking up of glass and garbage easier. They can be stored with the extra bags and safety vests. (Other volunteers, in the past, made one using a stick, and a nail poking out, to help with ‘stabbing’ cans, etc. Greg thinks this may be easier and more cost effective.) More details on the event to be discussed via open floor & next week’s event-invite.

Mayor’s Report (Jenny): Color: ‘Wendy White’
-Waiting on the delivery of a gift basket, given to Sahmeen at the Brooklyn Bowl to show our LVJBS ‘Thanks’ for her generosity to our Society. Thanks to Greg for organizing the August ‘Friends & Family’ event and the attendees.

Fundraising Committee: (Kathy)
We are going to purchase an ‘inexpensive’ guitar for the members of moe. to autograph for our after-show party’s RAFFLE.
(An email by Annette S., our new Volunteer Committee head will soon gather responsible volunteers to assist with the upcoming ‘Hard Rock Live’ shows. Two people will be able to be on the ‘sold-out’ moe. guest-list, in exchange for spending their evening (breaks given by others) at the LVJBS, Raffle table….Helping out with any sales and questions.)
More info TBA.

Production Report (Greg):
Contacts/Updates:
* NEW RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE wants to come through, on Saturday, Dec. 6th (possible LVJBS Holiday party). Concerns: Hard Rock Live is not available. Would the majority of the group support this?
*LINDSAY BUCKINGHAM’S GUITAR ARMY is available Sept. 28th & Sept. 29th (conflict: Big Blues Bender) More info TBD.

*CHINA CATS from San Francisco, a Grateful Dead Tribute Band is interested in January/February 2015. Group supports this. Thinking a $10 ticket at the E-String or a free, Hard Rock Café show. More info TBD.

*THE MAGIC BEANS want to play after the KYLE GASS BAND…..Thoughts?

*Contacted by Rebecca who helped book the ‘Taro Hart’ & ‘Leon Mobley’ show, mentioned that SOUL REBEL are interested in Oct. 2-11….group thinks there is ‘too much going on in October to make that decision & to contact us again since it’d be hard to book a pretty much ‘unknown’ in our group-band.

*JOHN KAY BAND (solo-acoustic) are interested in Nov. 4th-16th. Greg to contact about prices & dates: Maybe Thursday, Nov. 6 or Saturday, Nov. 8th.

*GREAT AMERICAN TAXI sent interest on November 3rd-9th….Group thinks it’s too close to our busy, Halloween weekend.
